Did you know February 23 is National Dog Biscuit Day? I’m pretty sure your dog knows. Here are two treat recipes — one to make now and one to save for the summer when it’s hot. Flaxtastic Dog Treats These are healthy and tasty. Ingredients (organic, where possible): • ½ cup flaxseed • 1 cup oats • 1 cup whole wheat flour • ½ to 1 cup broth • ¼ cup peanut butter Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 2. Stir together flaxseed, oats and flour 3. Add peanut butter and ½ cup broth 4. Stir, adding more broth as needed to form a thick dough 5. Form dough into a ball 6. Roll out to ¼ inch thickness on a lightly floured surface 7. Cut into fun shapes 8. Bake 10 minutes till golden brown, flip, bake about 10 more 9. Cool and store airtight up to a week (if they last that long) Pumpkin Pupsicles These will make yours the coolest pup in town. Ingredients (organic, where possible): • 1 can pumpkin puree • 15 oz. tub nonfat Greek yogurt • 1 tablespoon honey • kibble pieces Directions: 1. Using a blender, mix all ingredients except kibble till smooth 2. Fill ice cube or mini cupcake trays with mixture 3. Add 1 piece of kibble to middle of each treat 4. Freeze until good and solid 5. Take out of molds, place in a zip bag and store in freezer Yum.
